Clay Bennett hopes to discourage Seattle Sonics fans so he can move teamWritten By A True Seattleite And Lifelong Seattle Sports Fan Last Updated 8-14-07 Let me begin by saying that I have never felt that Mr. Bennett has been honest about his intentions with the Seattle SuperSonics. I feel that Clay Bennett and the new Sonics ownership have every intention of moving this team to Oklahoma City as soon as they possibly can. I believe that was their intention from the beginning of their ownership, and I believe that their intentions intensified once the Sonics picked up the second pick in the 2007 NBA Lottery Draft. Guaranteed to have rights to one of the two "franchise" players that don't come along too often, they set their sights on pissing off everyone who cares about the Seattle SuperSonics. Hell, they've owned the team since October of '06, yet not one person from their group has moved into the Seattle area to oversee the operation of the franchise. Let it be known that if I were to invest 350 million dollars into a business in an area that I wanted to keep it, the least I would do is have someone I trusted, preferably one of the investors, move into the area and keep tabs on the everyday operations. The new ownership group (Professional Basketball Club LLC) has alienated fans by discarding virtually all remnants associated with the Sonics. No longer will you find Jack Sikma, Detlef Schrempf, David Locke, or Lenny Wilkins a part of the SuperSonics organization. Three of those names can be associated with the Sonics for the last few decades, names that are so familiar around here even non-fans would recognize them, and Clay has gotten rid of them. His intention of course is to discourage us Seattleites so we go down without a fight! You've got another thing coming maggot! Clay himself has done what he can to piss off any and all politicians that have anything to do with this arena issue. They've come up with an extremely high estimate for the building they insist they need. They've offered to put up less than one fifth of the cost, not even offering to cover cost overruns. They've set timetable deadlines as a form of ultimatum to the government, because we all know that ultimatums piss everyone off. He has gone out of his way to be a major asshole so that he can take our team of 40 years down to some puissant town in middle America. In my opinion, Clay Bennett is a huge piece of shit liar that has tried to bullshit the Seattle area fans into believing that he wants the team to stay here (in Seattle), yet has done very little to show that his words are anything more than lip service. Most everyone agrees that the best way to get the average non-fan to agree to any kind of new arena deal would be to win now, today. Clay is no genius, (he married into all the money he has at his command) but I'm certain that the jerk is also aware of the "win now" principle, and because of that he has essentially disassembled the team and organization to create what will certainly be a losing team for 2007-2008. The future of the Sonics franchise is looking great, but the future of the Sonics in Seattle is looking bleak. I can't stand that son of a bitch! Looking at the series of events that have gone in with the Seattle SuperSonics since the 2007 draft one has to believe that the new Sonics ownership has no intention of winning games now. The Sonics have traded their #1 scorer in Ray Allen, and allowed their #2 scorer (Rashard Lewis) to leave via free agency, with nothing in return. It is my belief that the only logical reason to allow these things to happen, particularly the mishandling of the Rashard Lewis situation, is to frustrate the Seattle fans of the Sonics so that it will be easier for Clay to get NBA approval to leave our city. Despite what Clay or anyone from the Sonics organization says, they want nothing more than to take our team from us. I've heard good things about Robert Swift this year, bulking up to 270 lbs to be a formidable force inside. He doesn't have to score much as long as he can be a presence that can get rebounds and block shots, protect the paint. We can all hope that Luke Ridnour can run a good point position and maybe score some points occasionally. Maybe Nick Collison will continue to improve his power forward/center presence as he did late last season and become more consistent on a daily basis. Delonte West is said to have a good upside and is a versatile player, running the point and handling the shooting guard duties. If I dare to hope, I can see how this team could surprise some people and make something happen. Wouldn't that piss off their new owners? |
